This evening we walked around the war memorials in downtown Lynchburg. It was a first for us. So many memorials on our short walk. Spanish American War. World War I.World War II. Korean War. Vietnam War.

These Wars all before my time and pivotal points in our history. I wish I’d payed more attention in school. I find myself digging in later in life to read the history I missed.

In the 80s, I remember the Iran-Iraq War so far away and not truly understanding. I remember the fear of Desert Storm and Desert Shield. Actually loosing a college friend. My experiences are secondary. I’ve never served our country or fought in battle. I love reading and learning about the history of our country and the freedoms we hold dearly. On this Memorial Day we remember less we forgot.
