On Sunday she Rested

Or at least she tried really hard. The more she tries to rest the faster her mind runs. Unlike her six year old, she struggles with sleep or more precisely turning her mind off. It’s kinda like cleaning the house instead of your taxes, studying, grading papers, or whatever more pressing item needs to be tackled.

If you followed me long you know I’ve been attempting to rest on the Sabbath in 2018. It is week 16 of 52 and I’m at a C+ or maybe a B- but I really want to rest. Today’s latest mind bending challenge as I lay in bed “resting”: If God’s new covenant (Jesus) replaced the old covenant (Old Testament laws) than resting on the Sabbath is replaced by loving like Jesus. Which can be equally challenging. But because I want to love like Jesus I want to obey the rules. And that’s the point I believe. That when we love like Jesus we naturally want to follow the rules/laws just as Jesus did.

So, my brothers and sisters, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God……But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code. Romans 7:4;7:6.

Enjoy your Sabbath!

💗,

Julie
