Did you know that Tuesday is the best travel day? Airfare is typically less and the airport/ flights are less busy. Traveling can be fun and exiting. The downside to traveling is that you are often out of sink with your normal routine. For many years I self- sabotaged with the mindset that I can try something new while I am away from home. I overindulged in sweet treats and did not stick to my routine. More sugar, less sleep, and less exercise left me feeling sluggish and sleepy. It took several days once I was home to get back on my routine. So here are a few things I do when I travel.

My Five Nonnegotiables when traveling
1. Pack your own food/snacks
2. Keep your body on the same time zone if possible. If you are traveling overseas that is probably unrealistic.
3. Read your Bible and pray
4. 30 minutes of exercise no matter what. Squats or marching in place count!
5. Find something to be thankful for.

I pack what I can that will travel well and make it through the TSA screening. While I do get a free checked bag I find it easier to travel with my luggage. It saves me time and I don’t have to worry if my bag will make it.

Even when I’m in a hotel and off my normal routine I still start my day in The Bible. The You Version App is free and you can select the Bible translation you prefer. Starting my day with Jesus just makes everything better.

When I’m looking at my hotel and surroundings areas I look for a grocery store to stock up on healthy options. Having healthy food close at hand can save you from making poor choices at your hotel.

if you can and it is safe!!
I try to stay on my time zone even if I am out west. Sometimes it works other times it just doesn’t. I don’t stress out about it I just do the best I can.

Exercising can be hard when you travel especially if you are in a different time zone and meetings run late. Most hotels offer a workout room, I try to get up early and spend 30 minutes in some form of exercise which is completely opposite from what I do at home. If I have 45 minutes I will walk on the treadmill 30 minutes and 15 minutes of weight training. If I only have 30 minutes I will walk for 15 minutes and lift weights for 15 minutes. This combination of cardio and strength training helps me feel my best.

By the end of the day, I am tired but not completely drained because I did not take care of myself. I like to take a hot bath and soak. Yes, even in a hotel I will clean the tub then enjoy a long soak. I pack Epson salt in my bag for my bath. While I am soaking I find things that I am thankful for. Ending my day with gratitude and prayer makes for a restful sleep for me.
I hope this helps you my friend! If you have any questions feel free to reach out. Please let me know how I can help you.
